Precision, expertise and mutual respect are valuable principles of the Supreme Audit Office of the Slovak Republic (SAO SR) as well as the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS). On Wednesday, 22 June 2016, Karol Mitrík, the President of the SAO SR, together with Prof. Pavol Šajgalík, the President of the SAS, signed a memorandum of cooperation at the premises of the SAO SR.

The attempts at partnership between both institutions are to secure the effective and efficient protection of state and public financial resources. An important step towards this will be the creation of practical conditions for expert cooperation within their legal competences in relation to exchanging information, experience and good practice. Both presidents welcomed the collaboration and agreed that mutual cooperation in the area of selected educational and research projects, as well as projects for practical solutions to problems of economic and managerial practice, will contribute to consistent preparation of performance-related auditing aimed at evaluating effectiveness and efficiency in public expenditure.
"A rich country invests in science, because science and research makes it wealthy," Prof. Šajgalík said at the meeting. At the same time, he appreciated the SAO SR's interest in utilizating experts from the SAS, and he considers closer cooperation as meaningful and beneficial. It is precisely the SAS's experience which the SAO SR wants to make use of with regard to cross-sectional performance-related audits. "The SAS seems to be the most natural partner for the SAO SR, mainly in relation to the modelling of audit questions and the evaluation of the results from cross-sectional audits based on which recommendations are formed for the highest state institutions," Karol Mitrík thinks. Establishing a partnership in the area of support to a newly-formed analytical field is an important step in mutually-beneficial cooperation within the context of the education and expert preparation of auditors in the form of seminars, workshops and interchangeable practice. The collaboration of the SAS and the SAO SR will contribute to an increase in the value of research connected with social and economic development which is currently oriented towards an interface between the SAS, universities, research institutions and partners in the field of industry and the public sphere.
