I am currently the Principal Research Scientist/Group Leader at the Institute of Experimental Physics, Slovak Academy of Sciences, Košice, Slovakia. My research program mainly focuses on protein biochemistry, studying protein-phospholipid interactions under normal and pathophysiological conditions, the role of oxidative stress and mitochondrial function in aging, and age-related diseases. In recent years, attention has also been paid to the effect of nanoscale material on the structural and functional properties of cell components.
I received a Master's degree in Medical Biochemistry from the Faculty of Medicine and Biology at the Russian State Medical University in Moscow, Russia, and a PhD in Biochemistry from Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic. I completed my postdoctoral fellowship program at The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, USA, and received a DSc degree in Biophysics from P.J. Safarik University in Kosice, Slovakia.
My work experience includes research and faculty positions at the Institute of Neurobiology SAS in Kosice, Slovakia, The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, USA, and the Institute of Experimental Physics SAS in Kosice, Slovakia. I also serve as an Editor of the peer-reviewed international journal Chemical Papers (Springer).
As a principal and co-principal investigator, I have completed several projects in the USA sponsored by the American Heart Association, the National Institute of Health, the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, and the Barshop Institute of Longevity and Aging Studies. Currently, I participate in international (NATO, Taiwan) and domestic (APVV, VEGA) grants and actively collaborate with research institutes in Ukraine, Spain, Portugal, and Taiwan. I continue to perform research projects and provide graduate and postgraduate training jointly with the Department of Biophysics of Safarik University in Kosice. As part of my science community service, I review many scientific studies for highly rated scientific journals and grant proposals from domestic and international agencies.
