Geografické a demografické charakteristiky rómskeho obyvateľstva na Slovensku

The study deals with main geographic and demographic characteristics of Gypsy population in Slovakia. It provides basic orientation in problems of statistical registration of this population, as well as in discrepancies existing in long-term records of Gypsies. Attention is paid to historic aspects of demographic behaviour of Gypsies in relation to the majority population of the Slovak Republic – distinct differences in age structure, fertility and birth rates. Based on accessible statistic data, the essential characteristics of spatial distribution of Gypsy population in Slovakia are analyzed. Taking into account the high rate of population growth and young age structure of Gypsy population, it is shown that accumulation of problems in the economic and social areas can be expected.
