A new concept for classification of scrub and hedges communities is offered. Some units characterized by scrubby layer, traditionally included to the woodlands, are now replaced into separate syntaxa within the Franguletea (dry heaths, willow scrubs), and Rhamno-Prunetea (Central European deciduous thickets, hazel thickets) classes.
