The author starts from his previous works (3, 4, 6) devoted to the methodical aspects of the geographical research on tourism. On the example of western Slovakia, he demonstrates the principles of a functional-chorological approach to the estimation of suppositions for the touristic movement. This approach facilitates to follow the tourism as a dynamic phenomenon and to consider not only the region, of its occurrence, but also the areas in which the impulses for participating in the touristic movement, and its relations between the poles and selective presuppositions, become formed.
