O článku:
In the present work, the author evaluates the hilly country of south-western Slovakia, from the standpoint of the occurrence of Artesian underground waters. On the territory of south-western Slovakia, following hills occur (from east to West): the Ipeľ, Hron, Žitava, Nitra, Trnava and Myjava hills. From geological standpoint, all of them are built of Miocene and Pliocene rocks, The series of strata of Pliocene, the Pannon, Pont and Levant, are the most widespread ones. In these series of strata, there have sedimented sands and gravels, which form entire layers or lenses, enclosed between clayey and marly rocks. These layers of sands and gravels are bearers of Artesian underground waters. According to the temperature and Chemical character of Artesian waters, the author divides them into shallow Artesian horizons with slightly mineralized water and temperatures up to 20 °C, and deep horizons of Artesian waters exhibiting strong mineralization and temperatures above 20 °C. The waters of shallow horizons are exploited for drinking purposes.
