O článku:
The author of this study submits a brief biography of a significant Slovak polyhistor; he states circumstances, which influenced his ideal development as well as his scientific interests; he evaluates his geographical Works and reflects on their contribution for the development of geography. He considers M. Bel as one of the greatest geographers at all, namely not only owing to the extensity of his work, but also for his methodological contribution. The European significance of M. Bel, according to the author, lies in the fact that he belongs to representatives of the beginning Age of Enlightenment and Rationalism.
