O článku:
In the present-day period cartography is to be considered as a young scientific discipline. A theoretical potential of knowledge is developed in it, conceived as the general theory of map. This theoretical potential is a super-structure above empirical cartography, above the practice. In re- cent centuries an only theory has been worked out in cartography, the theory of mathematical-cartographical projections, known so far as mathematical cartography. In the framework of classical cartography a theory of cartographical generalization began developing. Modem cartography, however, is influenced by both the Information theory and the system theory. Some new cartographical theories have arisen on this basis, namely the Information theory of map (of cartography), theory of cartographical communication, theory of cartographical language (map language), the system theory of map, and the theory of mathematic-cartographical modelling.
