The study is aimed at investigation of the population number and structure of free royal towns in Slovakia in the 2nd half of the 18th century. The study is based on an analysis of written sources of both municipal and central (Old-Hungarian) provenance providing the first reliable demo- graphic data. The structure of urban population is explored from the viewpoint of sex and age of population as well as social groups of active population.
