O článku:
The map represents a specific way of expressing the knowledge of the objective world. This way of expressing exists as a historico social fact. And as such this fact is to be examined to be more perfect. In the article the cartographical expressing is examined from the semiological, linguistic and logical aspects. From the semiological aspect every cartographical symbol represents a concept, i. e. a characteristic of an object — phenomenon objectively existing, never representing directly an object — phenomenon as such with all its properties and connections. The fundamental relationship (the law) of semiology, the semantic triangle, holds good for cartographical expressing, too. The so called semantic „tetrahedron“, or „quadrangle“ (preliminarily as a working aid) is being derived from that especially for cartography. From the linguistic aspect the article deals with ten properties of linguistic symbols holding good also for cartographical ones, further with both linguistic and contextual meanings existing also in cartographical symbols. In addition, the system of cartographical symbols, if it should be named cartographical language, requires a morphology (being prepared by the author as a next study J, a syntax and other levels of this language, to be worked out. From the aspect of logics examples for forming judgements and conclusions from cartographical symbols in the map are quoted. It is stated that the map is not only a means for communication, but also a tool of thinking.
