O článku:
Large waste heaps after smelter processing occur close to the village Smolník (E Slovakia). Specific vegetation developed there due to harsh condition of the waste. Many lichen species occur together with the phanerogams, that can tolerate the surplus of metals such as Cu, As and Fe. The trees have anomalous growth and coloration. Eight vulnerable species of lichens such as Cladonia carneola, Lecanora handelii, L. subaurea, Lecidea inops, Porpidia musiva, Pycnothelia papillaria, Stereocaulon dactylophyllum, and S. nanodes also some vascular plants such as Agrostis capillaris, Silene dioica, and Calluna vulgaris grow there. However, the occurrence of these plants could be an important gene bank of species with tolerance to the metals
