This was not just a courtesy meeting with diplomatic heads. The President of the Romanian Academy of Sciences Prof. Ioan-Aurel Pop attended a meeting with members of the SAS Presidium in the presence Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Romania to Slovakia, Steluty Arhire, with a vision to solidify closer cooperation with SAS.
SAS President prof. Pavol Šajgalík received guests with equal interests. The meeting gave a brief presentation of the academies of both countries. They have slightly different structures but similar ambitions and goals. Both sides exchanged information on the structure, funding and operation of national scientific academies in Romania and Slovakia. They also informed on ongoing projects and the emphasis on research excellence. They noted the crossover of interests and the already established cooperation on several projects which have already started. These should be covered by a Memorandum of Cooperation between the two academies, which will be signed by academy representatives in the coming months
