The aim of the work is to provide a survey of the most widely known representatives of the spatial data models and especially their critical evaluation pointing at the inherent assets as well as the drawbacks of the individual spatial data models. Thus conceived work is set within the frame of the evaluation of the functionality of the representatives of two basic types of spatial models i.e. vector and tessallation models according to five criteria: completeness, robustness, versatility, efficiency and easiness of generation.
