Theme of the contribution is the linear regression analysis of the relation between the value of the mean annual runoff (dependent variable) and nine parameters of the elements of the natural landscape structure of the drainage area (independent variables) in the frame of the selective set of 141 drainage areas of Slovakia. Quantified regression model complies with the conditions of normal distribution of the residues and the absence of their mutual correlation. But it does not comply with the condition of mutual linear independence of the independent variables. For that reason they were orthogonalized by the creation of new variables – the principal components. Out of them the first six were used for the estimation of standardized dependent variable. By a regressive transformation of parameters c corresponding to the selected principal components, the co-efficients b of the original independent variables were estimated. The model can, besides the estimation of the values of the mean annual runoff for the drainages, without the need of the hydrological observations, also express the correct conclusions on the effect of the selected independent variables on the spatial variability of the values of the mean annual runoff.
