The work points at the significance of cognition of material entity of landscape and its outer manifestation especially in the context of holistic approach. Equality of cognition of the quoted traits is enabled by identification of land cover especially by application of remote sensing data. Cognition of physiognomy (picture) of landscape is related to the process of perception as conditioned by individuality of percipient, but also by the possibilities (place, totality) of perception. Process of perception of landscape is objectivized by photographs, (slides), aerial and satellite photographs and imageries. Their visual analysis offers effective possibilities of evaluation of the aesthetic value of landscape, but also possibilities of identification of land cover, its pattern and evaluation of spatial changes of landscape for environmental management and planning.
