O článku:
The text is based on the diploma work The contemporary legends and rumors in the urban environment defended in the current Department of Ethnology and Folklore UKF in Nitra in 2012. The particular narratives were obtained by the ethnographic interview during the field research conducted in Žilina. The main focus of the paper is on the example of specific contemporary legends and rumors pointing out the latent message of these narratives, and their social function. To achieve the aim of the work comparison is necessary with foreign material and with some material obtained through the Internet. The basic theoretical background of the paper is the publication Fáma, nejstarší médium světa (1992) by J.-N. Kapferer, but also Černá sanitka a jiné děsivé příběhy. Současné pověsti a fámy v České republice (2006) by P. Janeček and Encyclopedia of Urban Legends (2001) by J. H. Brunvand. The paper focuses on the analysis of contemporary legends and rumors with xenophobic overtones. Just these narratives are in fact a part or product of inter-group tensions. Oral folklore reflects the concerns of inhabitants of Žilina from ,,the others“, from something that is not part of the majority culture and may eventually threaten it.
