The Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS) Institute of Hydrology has begun operations in its new premises at 9 Dúbravská Road, Bratislava. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to open the new workplace of the Institute. The new building was officially inaugurated by Dr Pavla Pekárová, the President of the SAS Institute of Hydrology, in the presence of invited guests. Among these were Dr Eva Majková, the SAS Vice-Chairperson for Research; Dr Juraj Lapin and Dr Pavol Siman, members of the Presidium of the SAS; as well as members of the Scientific Board and workers of the Institute. To mark the occasion, the invited guests were presented with memorial plaques.

The Institute moved from its premises at 75 Račianska Street during March 2016. It turns knowledge from particular areas of global hydrology to our everyday requirements and acquires unique knowledge of the characteristics of the hydrologic cycle in terms of the flooding conditions in Slovak rivers. Making knowledge about its research open and available to the public, the Institute contributes to the development of hydrology as a scientific discipline. Solutions to problems are targeted at the mutual interaction between surface water, groundwater and soil water in the dimensions of time and space. Let us hope that the Institute will be successful in implementing its research programmes in its new premises.
