Israeli Ambassador Zvi Aviner Vapni visited Slovak Academy of Sciences on 24. February 2016. It was his first visit of Academy, since taking his office in December 2015. Ambassador and the Presidium of SAS discussed the possibilities of extended science cooperation between Slovak republic and Israel.

The president of the Slovak Academy of Sciences prof. Pavol Šajgalík introduced Ambassador to Academy, its structure and ongoing cooperation between Israel and Slovakia. His Excellency Zvi Aviner Vapni noted that, Israel is focusing on development of science and technology and therefore welcomes any international cooperation. „I see a lot of similarities between our countries. We are small, but I believe, that we are living in the age of small countries. We don´t necessarily need another half a million people. Sometimes ten people are enough to invent something, world will benefit from,” said the Ambassador.

According to the president of SAS prof. Pavol Šajgalík, Academy wants to get a particular inspiration in transfer of knowledge into practice. „Besides the fact that Israel has a number of Nobel prices, it also has high success rank in technology transfer to industry and society. We want to take the same direction and therefore we seek opportunities for cooperation with countries like Israel, Taiwan, and Singapore,” explained Pavol Šajgalík.

Besides the geographical proximity, cooperation with Israel has another advantage. Country can participate on the framework programs of European Union. Our strengths are according to Pavol Šajgalík excellent science teams and infrastructure.

Both sides of the negotiations will now check ongoing agreements and cooperation between Slovakia and Israel and will try to officially cover them at the level of ministries of both countries.
