About article:
Although poverty also existed in time of socialism in the transforming countries of Central and Eastern Europe, it became more acute after the political and economic changes. The aim of the study is to provide a survey of the most recent and most important facts on poverty, notions and way of measurement with emphasis on its spatial dimensions. The study, apart of synthesis of the knowledge on concepts (methods) of measurement, also evaluates their applicability in observation of spatial distribution of poverty. Part of the study is a survey of literature on poverty in Slovakia, which in some way treated its spatial aspect (dimensions). The study also observes the common traits typical for the existing (identified) regions of poverty in Slovakia and contains criteria applied for the choice of concepts and indicators for research of spatial dimensions of poverty.
