The contribution is aimed at giving a true picture of individuality and significance of both structure and development of the population as well as industrial structure by branches in the Spiš region. For these purposes as well as to render some intraregional differentiations the method of shift-share analysis was employed by us. Thanks to this application it was possible to assess the rate to what degree differentiations in population age structure and in industrial composition by branches took part in the development of the two basic components of socio-economic life within the Spiš region investigated.
