Authors of the contribution analyse the contemporary state of the research of the problem of carrying capacity. They lean on foreign, especially Anglo-Saxon literature. Research boom of ecological carrying capacity as provoked by social demands expecting that by means of carrying capacity research the basic problems of the relation man – environment will be solved, has been the basic reason of the origin of this informative study.
