About article:
The region of the Upper Nitra is unique regarding the structure of the energy industry, which creates here an energy system elements of which are closely connected and tied to one another. For this reason we have used the method of J.D. Chapman Energy supply chains for its analysis (1989) (Fig. 1). The chain is based on soft coal, and its links extend from underground mining to preparation and transformation of coal into electricity and beat, and to their end uses. The principal reason for the origin of this complex chain was the low quality of coal mined here. We analysed the spatial and functional structure of individual links and the connections among them with special stress on the ecological link and the transformation link, which are the key links in this chain.
