About article:
Hydrogeographical and hydrological research activity of the Institute of Geography of the Slovak Academy of Science (IG SAS) and the Department of Physical Geography of Faculty of Natural Sciences of Comenius University in Bratislava, the two biggest Slovak geographical centres is analysed. On the background of a difference between the hydrogeographical and hydrological approach, main research orientations of both institutions since their foundation are presented. In IG SAS at first hydrological approach dominated. After constituting the paradigm of complex physical geography also hydrogeographical approach has developed. Several new theoretic-metodological approaches corresponding to the principles of complex physical geography were introduced. Also the research activity of the Department of Physical Geography was in connection with the development of complex physical geography. The main research topics here were hydrological regionalization and groundwater regime.
