About article:
Czech and Slovak agricultural geographers pay the greatest attention to the issues framed in the crucial temporal change of a society-wide nature (transformation of agriculture, the impact of accession to the EU). However, these issues quickly become outdated. The theoretical frameworks eliminating the disadvantage of being firmly anchored in a specific time have been used only marginally (e.g. the concept of sustainability). Therefore it seems that the Czech and Slovak agricultural geography is searching for “inspiring and rewarding” approaches after more than 10 years of membership in the EU. This article attempts to show that the theoretical discussion focused on the conceptualizations of the multifunctional agriculture and agricultural multifunctionality offers the principal idea, inspiration and application, which should be useful for the analysis of changes in agriculture, or more precisely in the wider rural area of the Czech Republic and Slovak Republic, and goes beyond the argument that multifunctional agriculture is negatively associated with the Common Agriculture Policy as a “defence of European agriculture”.
