Implantable materials, e.g. biosensors, scaffolds, stents or dental and hip prosthetics must meet strict requirements in term of their surface properties. Surface modification of implantable materials with polymers improving surface biocompatibility, specific cell adhesion and proliferation, and antibacterial properties is one of possible ways how to maintain these requirements. Proposed topic of PhD. Thesis is focused on the synthesis of poly(2-oxazolines) mimicking peptide structure with catechol units maintaining their bioadhesive properties. This work will comprise synthesis of catechol initiators with protected phenolic units, synthesis of 2-oxazolines containing catechol motifs, living cationic polymerizations of 2-oxazolines, physical and biological characterization of prepared polymers.
