Description:

A presence of ammonium in the buildings is solved by the technology presented. The ammonium is formed because of application of anti-freezing urea-containing additive in the concrete mixture.

Advantage:

Three procedures have been proposed as a solution in the past: a) demolition of the constructions affected, b) heating of the building/affected constructions to speed up the urea decomposition and removal of the formed ammonium by ventilation, c) application of the insulating coating to the affected constructions.
The alternative a) is expensive and in most cases, a demolition of whole building would be necessary. The alternative b) requested, beside the expenses of heating, time of several years. The alternative c) does not eliminate the source of the ammonia, so being very risky (the “time bomb”).
The problem is solved effectively and much less expensively by the designed technology according to the patent application PV-1510/99. An appropriate compound placed on an inert carrier chemically binds the ammonium formed. Both the active ingredient and its product of the reaction with ammonium are ecologically harmless.
