Toxicologist from SAS has become the chairperson of the European Society of Toxicology In Vitro
The Slovak toxicologist of the Institute of Experimental Pharmacology & Toxicology Centre of Experimental Medicine SAS, Dr Helena Kanďárová has become the chairperson of the European Society of Toxicology In Vitro ESTIV, which connects scientists from all over Europe working in the area of development and implementation of alternative methods in the field of pharmacology and toxicology.
The aim of ESTIV is to develop innovative approaches to assessing toxicity without the use of laboratory animals and to replace in vivo tests with alternative methods (in vitro and in silico) where new technologies allow.
Dr Helena Kanďárová, ERT is a member and co-founder of the Slovak National Platform for 3R Principles and is a member of committees of several toxicological organizations and advisory bodies for the area of toxicology at home and abroad. In 2017, she was the president of the European Congress of Toxicologists EUROTOX in Bratislava and the vice-president of the Slovak Toxicology Society SETOX.
About the Institute of Experimental Pharmacology & Toxicology CEM SAS:
The Institute of Experimental Pharmacology & Toxicology CEM SAS operates the only breeding station for experimental animals in Slovakia. The institute disposes of modern laboratories for performing toxicological studies in vivo and in vitro (i.e., without the use of laboratory animals) in the system of proper laboratory practice, and it also provides training activities in the field of working with in vitro tissue models. Several employees of the institute are also members of SETOX as well as the National Expert Scientific Group for the Assessment of Alternative Methods at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Slovak Republic and members of the Slovak National Platform for 3Rs (SNP3Rs).
