We discuss design aspects in $d$th degree polynomial spline regression with prescribed knots over a compact regression interval. The $B$-basis provides an advantageous parametrization, ensuring equivariance of designs under rescaling of the setup. Numerical results for Kiefer`s $φ_p$-criteria indicate that highly efficient designs are among those supported by the alternation points of the equi-oscillating spline.
