On a relation between monounary algebras and unoriented graphs

In this paper we deal with a question concerning the relations between monounary algebras and unoriented graphs. An analogous open problem on the relation between finite lattices and unoriented graphs was proposed by G. Birkhoff. To each monounary algebra $A$ we assign in a natural way an unoriented graph $G(A)$; the edges of $G(A)$ are the elements of $A$. We characterize all monounary algebras $A$ having the property that each automorphism of $G(A)$ is an automorphism of $A$.
