Studie zkoumá, jak je v básnické tvorbě Stanislava Kostky Neumanna (1875 – 1947) do roku 1914 reprezentován gender, jeho stereotypy, typizace, atributizace, mocenské vztahy a imaginativní asociace, a to na základě metodologického přístupu gender history a vnímání literárního textu podle koncepce nového historismu. Reprezentace feminity je ve sledovaném materiálu četná a širokospektrální, od objektu touhy, přes hříšnou bytost, prostitutku, po matku, pannu, či milenku. Maskulinita je reprezentována méně, především jako východisko lyrického mluvčího, nese ale atributy síly, hrdinství, vášně a bojovnosti. Díky syntéze poznatků z interpretací Neumannových básnických textů je v závěru studie popsána genderovaná dynamika sexuality v textech, a také konstruovány konkrétní ideje o dokonalé formě ženského i mužského genderu. I přes četnou tematizaci útlaku žen v patriarchálním společenském řádu a vystupování z mainstreamových úvah o genderu (například reprezentací mužské sensibility a vášnivosti či ženské sexuality) zůstává překvapivě neumannovský diskurz v mnohých aspektech konformní s hegemonním diskurzem.
The study examines how gender, its stereotypes, typifications, attributions, power relations, and imaginative associations are represented in the poetry of Stanislav Kostka Neumann (1875–1947) up to 1914, using the methodological approach of gender history and an understanding of the literary text based on the concept of New Historicism. Representations of femininity are numerous and wide-ranging in the material examined, from the object of desire, through the sinful being and the prostitute, to the mother, virgin, or lover. Masculinity is represented less frequently, primarily as the position of the lyric speaker, but it carries attributes of strength, heroism, passion, and combativeness. Drawing on a synthesis of insights from interpretations of Neumann’s poetic texts, the conclusion describes the gendered dynamics of sexuality in the texts and constructs specific ideas about the perfect form of female and male gender. Despite the frequent thematization of women’s oppression within the patriarchal social order and departures from mainstream thinking about gender, for example through representations of male sensibility and passion or female sexuality, Neumann’s discourse surprisingly remains conformist in many respects with hegemonic discourse.
