O článku:
These reached their full bloom after the arrival of Constantine and Methodius in Great Moravia (863). In the Great Moravian period a number of Old Slavonic monuments came into being; these, however, have not been fully preserved in their original form, and we know some of them only from later copies. It is principally religious writings which are represented in these monuments: evangeliaries (writings containing details of Christ’s life and teaching), homilies (interpretations of parts of the Bible), psalms (biblical songs and poems), and a variety of prayers. Of the older literary genres we find laudatory prose and poetry (hymns), as well as monuments of a legal character: ecclesiastical and secular codes. Old Slavonic monuments were recorded in Glagolitic (a script composed from the small letters of the Greek alphabet), Cyrillic (developed later from uncial, a script with elements of the small and large Greek alphabets) and Latin scripts. Glagolitic writings include evangeliaries, e.g. the Zograf Codex (codex = ancient manuscript book), and the Sinai Psalter; of the legal monuments the secular code Zakon sudnyj ľudem is extant. The Aseman Codex, the psalm collection Sava’s Book, Life of Constantine and Life of Methodius.
