The cycle of twelve contributions from the cycle Excerpts from the Past of Our Language aims to bring to light several significant milestones in the history of the Slovak language in its pre-literary and literary periods, i.e. from the times before the first codification by A. Bernolák in 1787 and after this milestone until the end of the 20th century. We present the development of the linguistic basis of our language based on the historical-comparative reconstruction method. These are the long-standing results of prominent Slavists, who formulated their conclusions by consistently comparing developmental tendencies in Slavic languages, especially because no coherent texts have been preserved from our territory from the Proto-Slavic period.
