This article focuses on Gejza Vámoš’ s (1901–1956) novel Atómy Boha (Atoms of God, 1928), aiming to highlight its complex ideological and cultural origins, stemming from the intersection of Slavic and non-Slavic cultural spaces in Central Europe. It traces the tension between the author’s work and the formation of the national literary canon, thereby raising the question of the different functioning of the work from the perspective of national (Slovak), regional, and world literature. From the perspective of world literature concepts, it takes into account Pascale Casanova’s argument about authors’ strategies for acquiring literary capital. It understands the novel as a transdisciplinary work of Central European literary culture in the modernist period, whose ambition is to convey knowledge from the fields of medicine and philosophy through fiction. The study draws attention to the affinities of Vámoš’s work with Jewish mysticism and messianism, as well as the possibility of examining it in various research contexts (biocentrism, maladic discourse).
