The author of the paper goes back to the substance of Štúr’s codification in the year 1846 and on the background of general historical and mainly linguistic works about Štúr’s movement looks for connections between interlinguistic and extralinguistic reasons of the miscarriage of the original codification. The author deals with Štúr’s change of conservativism in the range of standard language, mainly of this form and structure, and with reasons which led to the change of the original codification.
