O článku:
This article examines the role of towers in shaping the urban space and civic identity of late medieval
Cracow. Focusing on the early 14th century—a period marked by political upheaval and social transformation—
it explores how towers, both private and public, functioned as instruments of power,
memory, and spatial organization. Drawing comparisons with Central European and Italian cities, the
article highlights visual strategies of architectural alignment and symbolic appropriation. It argues that
the cityscape of Cracow became a site of contest between ducal authority and urban elites, reflecting
competing visions of society and collective identity.
