The paper presents the relevant sections of the still valid Rules of Slovak Orthography concerning the transcription of proper names from Cyrillic into Latin script, and confronts them with the current practice observed in the media sphere, reflecting the situation in today’s highly contingent liberal society. the theoretical considerations are illustrated by several specific examples of the transcription of proper names from Cyrillic.
