O článku:
J. Ledényi introduced the Slovak term priehlavok (Latin tarsus) into the first Slovak anatomical nomenclature and created a new term predpriehlavok (Latin metatarsus) using the prefix pred- (in front of). The Latin equivalent, however, has the prefix meta- (behind). This is related to the fact that for some terms of limb structures, the position in front of and in behind something can be different depending on the direction of looking. In the Graeco-Latin nomenclature, the object’s point of view is indicative, that means the metatarsus is behind the tarsus (Greek meta- behind), in the Slovak we look at it the other way around, predpriehlavok is in front of priehlavok. In Slovak veterinary nomenclature these terms are based on the Slovak term päta (heel, calcaneus). The tarsal bones occur from the observer’s point of view in front of the calcaneus, so the Slovak equivalent for tarsus is predpätie (with Slovak prefix pred-, English in front of). The metatarsal bones are located below the tarsus and are called podpätie (with Slovak prefix pod-, English under-).
