The Greek-Byzantine Rite at the Territory of Slovakia.

The Greek-Byzantine rite is practised nowadays approximately at one third of the present territory of Slovakia. The Church Slavonic and the Slovak language are used as the liturgical languages of this rite. The article presents a brief historical survey of the Greek-Byzantine rite at the territory of Slovakia from the coming of the Saints Cyril and Methodius till the present times, gives interpretation of the factus concerning the celebration of Saint Peter’s Liturgy at the territory of Great Moravia in the light of the hitherto published literature and refers to some distinctions between the Roman-Latin and the Greek-Byzantine-Slavonic liturgies. It also pays attention to the music and church singing in the Greek-Byzantine rite as well as to question of the social status of the Orthodox and Catholic priests and bishops in the former Hungarian kingdom before the year 1646, i. e. before the singing of the Uzhgorod Union.
