The study deals with the characteristics of the anthroponomastic terms personal name in one-element naming (anthroponymic) system (the corresponding international term is mononym), Slovak krstné meno (baptismal name, Christian name) and/or rodné meno (first name, forename or given name). Within the terminological system, these terms are classified as personal names (individual anthroponyms). The boundaries between these types of personal names are not sharp in terms of historical development, the transition of the one-element anthroponymic system to the two-element system, and the current state of society. These terms may also have different positions within hyperonymic-hyponymic relations. These types of personal names also have different functions on the axis of officiality – unofficiality. Krstné meno and rodné meno belong to those social and language categories that are constantly evolving, and therefore these terms must always be understood in a certain social context as a result of a certain degree of development of the human and national society. Depending on their nature, function or sphere of use, confirmation names, names with Christian origin and significance and names in calendar can be understood as types of first names.
