O článku:
Upper Silesia´s becoming industrial region heavily influenced spatial organization of urban areas. The strongest connection between industry and everyday life retained in old labour districts, such as Nikiszowiec - former mining settlement in Katowice. Houses (referred as "Familoki") in those working districts were built of specific red brick, their inner layout was standarized and based on the suite of rooms with a huge kitchen - a place, where whole family´s life converged. Furthermore, another type of settlements are found in conurbation of Upper Silesia - the newer ones, built afte Second World War as multi-dwelling housing estates. One of them is Tychy, the largest of the so-called "new towns" in Poland, designed as housing background for native and immigrant labouring population. Nowadays both types of settlement go into making of Upper Silesia´s spatial organization and scenery. Ways of dwelling in them mark out frameworks of area´s inhabitant lifes. Furthermore, new housing estates´spatial organization model became a determinant of modernity for people living in old districts. For example - modernizations and renovations of old houses in Nikiszowiec are intended for achieving biggest possible similarity with spatial organization of Tychy´s new flats.
