In recent years opinions and trends appear in the development of geography that define its new tasks and stress the presentation of geography as an social and scientific discipline. Contemporary World geography is characterized by increased accentuation of the research of social problems of man, satisfaction of his material and immaterial needs and in a broader sense also research of social-spatial structures and phenomena that geography tries to elucidate using the objective as well as subjective indicators. The article is attempting to comprise least some of the wide range of opinions and ideas on socio-scientific orientation of geography and points at the complementarity of macro- and micro-social approaches as well as the coexistence of various theoretical, methodological and philosophical approaches using the problems of spatial behaviour of man as an example.
