Self-regulated learning (SRL) is an umbrella term comprising three components: cognition, metacognition, and motivation. SRL is a cyclical process in which cognitive and metacognitive strategies are used and involves self-motivation of students. The use of cognitive learning strategies provides a basis for subsequent metacognitive monitoring and regulation of learning. On the other hand, knowledge of metacognitive strategies might help students to implement more effective cognitive strategies. Therefore, the cyclical interplay of cognitive and metacognitive processes is vital for efficient learning. The proposed project will experimentally investigate the relationship between the use of different cognitive strategies and subsequent metacognitive regulation. In addition, it will investigate the relationship between metacognitive knowledge, cognitive strategy uses and motivation.
