Genetic control of lipid droplet biogenesis in yeast

Lipid droplets play an important role in lipid homeostasis in eukaryotic cells and their dysfuction is accompanied by manifestations of lipotoxicity and with severe metabolic disorders in humans. Using the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model eukaryotic cell we will study the role of genes involved in lipid metabolism and stress response in the control of lipid droplet biogenesis with the emphasis on the relation of lipid droplets and lipotoxicity of the intermediates of sterol metabolism.
