The Project: The posts are offered as part of the IMPULZ project Fragile Futures: A Critical Investigation of the Intersections between Fictional and Non-fictional Accounts of the Long-term Future (PI Johannes Kaminski). This project draws on the long-term risk projections of strategic foresight reports, as published by inter-governmental organisations and multi-national companies, and places them in a dialogue with speculative and science fiction. By placing the fictional and non-fictional world-making accounts on a horizontal plane, the project breaks down the knowledge silos generated not only by subject specialization, but also by cultural boundaries. The project closes in on three areas of investigation: environmental, social and geopolitical futures.

Key Responsibilities:
• Research into contemporary future narratives and foresight, as found in fictional (sf, utopian, dystopian, speculative) and non-fictional texts (foresight and future reports, as published by national, intergovernmental, corporate and independent actors)
• Production of multi-authored papers and co-editing a thematic issue
• Production of independent scholarly contributions
• Co-organising workshops
• Contributions to an online resource that documents and maps futures
Required skills and qualifications:
• PhD degree in Russian studies, comparative literature or any other relevant field (Position 1)
OR
PhD degree in political science, sociology, philosophy or in any other relevant field (Position 2)
• The ability to substantively engage with the intersections between literary writing and current affairs
• Excellent command of English
• Excellent publication track record (in light of current research experience)
Desirable skills:
• Good knowledge of the fields of utopian literature OR future studies OR foresight
• Working knowledge of Slovak
• Interest in creating podcasts, vlogs and other social media formats

Only candidates with a valid work permit for Slovakia (e.g. through EU citizenship, Single Permit, EU Blue Card for Slovakia) will be considered.

We offer:
• Flexible working arrangement and the opportunity to work mostly from home
• Opportunity to focus on your own research project within a larger theoretical context
• Employee benefits: nine weeks of annual leave, pension scheme contributions, health insurance
• Grant funding for a laptop and conference travel
• Multilingual working environment
• Team of friendly colleagues

Remuneration:
Gross salary 1600–1800 EUR (full-time, possibility of a bonus)
