Prof. JUDr. Oľga Ovečková, DrSc.

Prof. JUDr. Olga Ovečková, DrSc. (Born Reháková on 5.3.1939 in Prešov) graduated from Comenius University in Bratislava, Faculty of Law in 1961 and earned her titles CSc. (1968), DrSc. (1984), Doc. (1992), Prof. (1997). The Institute of State and Law of the Slovak Academy of Sciences has employed her since 1961: a study stay, an internal postgraduate program, a research worker, a senior researcher, the head of a department, the director of the institute (1988-1995), the vice chairwoman of the Academy (1990-1993), and the chairwoman of the Institute's Scientific Council. Between 1975 and 2003, she worked as an external teacher at Comenius University in Bratislava's Faculty of Law. For a long time, she has been an active member of several legislative commissions, the most significant of which are: Member of the ČSFR Government Commission for the Preparation of the Commercial Code (1990-1991), Member of the Slovak Republic Legislative Council (1993-2020). She is also a member of the Learned Society of Slovakia. She has been the chief editor of the scientific journal Právny obzor since 1996, and she is a member of the Editorial Board of other scientific journals, such as Právnik (Prague), Bulletin slovenskej advokácie, Justičná revue and Súkromné právo. Specialization: commercial and economic law, especially private law. Author or co-author of several significant scientific works. The most prestigious honors and awards: State award Rad Ľ. Štúra I. triedy, an award for exceptional merit in the field of legal sciences (2003).
