Curriculum vitae

Mgr. Katarína Orviská, PhD.

Katarína Orviská (1994) earned her MA degree in art history in Brno (Masaryk University) and her PhD in Trnava (University of Trnava) in 2024. During doctoral studies, she completed a six-month research stay at the Austrian Academy of Sciences, at the Institute for Habsburg and Balkan Studies. She currently works as a research fellow at the Institute of Art History, Art Research Centre of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. She also received a scholarship from the Štefan Schwarz Support Fund in 2025 and is a member of the research team for the project 'At the Castle and underneath', supported by the Slovak Research and Development Agency. Her main research area is 18th-century Hungarian art, with a focus on present-day western Slovakia, especially Bratislava, as the coronation city of the Hungarian kings. She is currently researching the patronage of Primate and Archbishop of Esztergom Emericus Esterházy. Her first scholarly monograph — In the Service of the State, the Church, and One's Own House. Iconology of the Main and Coronation Altar in St. Martin's Cathedral in Bratislava by G. R. Donner and Its Patron Emericus Esterházy — published by VEDA Publishing House, explores the meaning of the coronation altar in the context of its function as both a coronation and main altar, as well as the patron's role in its creation.
