The Slovak Academy of Sciences wants to attract a new generation of high-quality scientific leaders to its workplaces. On this occasion, it launched the new IMPULSE mobility programme today. Internationally recognised scientists and highly talented young researchers will thus have the opportunity to realise their scientific intentions at the SAS workplaces under conditions reaching a prestigious European grant. One of their motivation should be the opportunity to draw funds in the amount of EUR 160,000 per year.

The IMPULZ programme is a new grant scheme of the SAS, which aims to help internationalise the academy, improve its scientific organisations and increase their success in obtaining prestigious grants. "IMPULSE is a necessary and very important programme of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, which is to help us find new young leaders of scientific teams who can come up with new topics that are at the frontier of knowledge. Another goal of the programme is to make these young leaders more successful in writing European Research Council (ERC) projects,” said Pavol Šajgalík, President of the SAS.

The task of the new scientific generation will be to create their own research teams and work on new topics in accordance with world trends. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to lead the proposed research team and must commit to submitting an ERC project, a Horizon Europe project or another prestigious foreign grant scheme in the first half of the project.  The submitted projects will be assessed by an international panel of evaluators, chaired by the recognised scientist Professor Vladimír Šucha.

The projects will last 5 years and the successful applicants will be able to draw grants in the amount of EUR 60,000 to 160,000 per year. "Scientists will be able to fund travel costs, costs of materials, research infrastructure, publication costs, including open access, as well as wage costs," explained Zuzana Hrabovská, Head of the Science and Research Department of the SAS Office.

The call for the IMPULSE programme will be open until June 30, 2021. All necessary information, as well as the complete text of the call, can be found on the following website: https://impulz.sav.sk.
