The Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS) and the Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS) have collaborated for decades on an exceptional professional and friendly level. In recent years, this relationship has been strengthened by their top representatives. As recognition of his significant contribution to this collaboration, the President of SAS, Pavol Šajgalík, received the CAS De scientia et humanitate optime meritis medal in Prague.

The highest honorary award of the Czech Academy of Sciences was presented to the President of SAS on March 4 by Eva Zažímalová, the President of CAS.

"The Czech Academy of Sciences has a broader historical past, which makes us appreciate even more the 'sibling relationship' between our two institutions, built on principles of partnership and friendship. We frequently turn to our colleagues for help or advice, and I cannot recall a time when we did not receive a qualified and warm response," said Pavol Šajgalík.

The De scientia et humanitate optime meritis medal has been the highest honorary award of CAS since 1995, recognizing outstanding domestic and foreign personalities for their contributions to science and the humanities.

"Of all the awards I have received in my life, this medal holds exceptional significance for me," added Pavol Šajgalík.

The artistic design of the De scientia et humanitate optime meritis medal was created by academic painter and medalist Josef Hvozdenský, a prominent figure in contemporary visual arts.

"The Slovak Academy of Sciences is the closest to us among Central European academies, not only due to our shared history but also because of our common challenges and mutual understanding. I appreciate SAS’s support during times of crisis when our government drastically cut our budget. Our colleagues from the Slovak Academy of Sciences were very supportive during that time," recalled Eva Zažímalová, the President of CAS.
