SAS continues in its most successful project to fight against brain drain
After the successful SASPRO project, which is a scheme of a fight against brain drain, the Slovak Academy of Sciences is launching its follow-up project - SASPRO 2. The opportunity will be given to 40 scientists who are currently working abroad and either want to return to their homeland or come from other countries and want to do science in Slovakia. The Comenius University and the Slovak University of Technology are cooperating on the project with the SAS. The first call for registration of scientific talents is announced today on November 2, 2020, and will be open until March 1, 2020.
“The opening of the call for SASPRO 2 is a significant step that comes at a time when the whole of Slovakia lives not only in the Covid times, but literally in the feeling of sadness that our young students and researchers are leaving to work abroad. SASPRO 2 wants to return part of the flow of brainpower that is leaving the country. I believe that this ongoing project will become a nucleation seed on which it will be possible to build so that our students will not leave, or rather, hat those who gain experience abroad will return home,” said Pavol Šajgalík, President of SAS.
The aim of the SASPRO 2 program is to strengthen the scientific organisations of the SAS and the faculties of STU and UK with researchers from top foreign workplaces, to improve cooperation between scientific and application sectors, or to support multidisciplinary approaches to project solutions. It is also an effort to deepen the connection of SAS, STU and UK with each other, to support their cooperation with foreign workplaces and to build a network of contacts that will make the international cooperation easier.
The project´s value is approximately EUR 9 million and was submitted by the SAS under the Horizon 2020 call in the category of Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions - COFUND. Each university will accept 10 scientists at its workplaces and the remaining 20 will work at the institutes of the SAS. The program enables researchers to apply for a work stay from 12 to 36 months, while the field of science, within which they submit applications, is not limited.
