A ribbon-cutting ceremony, together with speeches and a presentation of the projectʼs advantages, accompanied the handing over of a new building which belongs to the Research Centre of Advanced Materials and Technologies for Current and Future Applications (PROMATECH) in Watsonova Street, Košice. It was established through an agreement of association of 30 November 2015. Its members are as follows: the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS), the SAS Institute of Materials Research, the SAS Institute of Experimental Physics, the SAS Institute of Geotechnics, the SAS Institute of Materials and Machine Mechanics, the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University and the Technical University of Košice.
PROMATECH provides a real platform to promote cooperation between the academic world and industry in the area of applied research into materials. It may significantly contribute to the overall competitiveness of industry via the implementation of new materials and technologies into production processes and products. The President of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, Prof. Pavol Šajgalík, the SR Government Plenipotentiary for Research and Innovation, Prof. Jaromír Pastorek, and the Mayor of the city of Košice, Richard Raši, as well as other guests, took part in the opening ceremony held to welcome a new Pavilion for Material Sciences.
Prof. Ján Dusza, the President of the SAS Institute of Materials Research, gave a short presentation, introducing PROMATECH. It was built as part of the project known as "Research Centre of Advanced Materials and Technologies for Current and Future Applications PROMATECH". Its financing was aided by means of a contribution within the framework of the Operational Programme Research and Development for Innovations, which included finance drawn from the European Regional Development Fund. The total cost of the project was 22, 192,045.17 Euros.
"We have managed to unite activities, structures, workplaces and capacities and so build one strong team whose job is to work on multiple technologies for different areas of industry, from the automotive industry to medicine. I see this as one of the most significant benefits of PROMATECH," pointed out Prof. Dusza.
